Grand Cayman Travel Guide: Costs, Beaches & Savvy Travel Tips
Planning a trip to Grand Cayman? Here’s my honest Grand Cayman travel guide including costs, beaches, where to stay, things to do, and savvy travel tips after 6 days on the island.
6/8/2026

INTRODUCTION
I booked Grand Cayman on a whim after finding a cheap flight and honestly wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. But after seeing some of the clearest water I’ve ever been in, floating all day at Seven Mile Beach, and swimming in a glowing bioluminescent bay at night, I totally get why people rave about this island.
That said… Grand Cayman is expensive.
Like, one cocktail can easily cost what an entire lunch costs in some destinations. But you know I’m still going to tell you how to be savvy in Grand Cayman.
If you’re wondering whether Grand Cayman is worth the cost, where to stay, what to do, and how to experience the island without completely blowing your budget, I’m sharing exactly what I learned, what I spent, and what I’d recommend after 6 days on the island.
Quick Stats
Dates: April 25-30, 2026
Trip Length: 6 days
Type of Trip: Girls Trip / Relaxing Getaway
Total Spent: $1497
Where To Stay in Grand Cayman
I stayed at Sunset Cove on Seven Mile Beach, and I would absolutely recommend it.
Why I Loved Staying at Sunset Cove
The beachfront location on a quiet cove made floating in the ocean all day an absolute dream. The cove also helped keep the seaweed out, which made the water even more enjoyable.
There’s also:
a pool with a swim-up bar
a restaurant on-site
walkable restaurants nearby
a grocery store about a 20-minute walk away
I still recommend renting a car so you can explore more of the island, but this is one of those places that works even if you don’t want to drive every day.
Personally, I don’t always love driving at night in unfamiliar places, especially when it’s left-side driving and I’ve had a glass of wine with dinner, so having restaurants within walking distance was a huge bonus.
Another big perk is that the apartments have full kitchens and laundry. Grand Cayman is expensive, so being able to make breakfast or lunch at the apartment definitely helped save money.
💰Savvy Traveler Tip: Bring easy-to-pack snacks or breakfast items from home like oatmeal packets, granola bars, or protein bars. Also, plan on hitting up the grocery store. Groceries are expensive on the island too, but still cheaper than eating every meal out.
And as the name suggests, Sunset Cove has some seriously beautiful sunsets.
Pros
Beachfront location
Calm cove with floatable water
Great for families or relaxing trips
Pool with swim-up bar
Restaurant/bar on-site
Walkable area
Full kitchen and laundry
Cons
Because it’s in a cove, you don’t get the long stretch of Seven Mile Beach views that you’ll find in other areas.
Other Areas To Consider Staying
The Locale Hotel
Reasonably priced and in a great location near restaurants and shops, but not beachfront.
Cemetery Beach Area
One of my favorite beaches on the island. The water here is absolutely beautiful and snorkeling right from shore is great. The downside is that there’s not much within walking distance, so it’s less convenient without a car.

Where To Eat in Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman is often described as a foodie paradise and honestly… I get it.
There are SO many highly-rated restaurants on the island that it’s impossible to try them all in one trip, but here are a few places we either loved or added to our list for next time.
Restaurants We Tried or Researched
Peppers
The Kitchen Steakhouse
Coconut Joe’s
Bonny Moon
The Wharf
Chicken! Chicken!
Waffle Monkey
Luca (great brunch)
The Hive
Geltao & Co. Camana Bay (Camana Bay is a nice area to walk around with shops and outdoor restaurants)
Bonus: Check out the entertainment schedule at Fidel Murphy’s Irish Pub.
The Kitchen Steakhouse
This was a standout for our whole group.
The atmosphere was cool and relaxed, the drinks were fun, and the food was honestly excellent.
And it’s conveniently located across from Fidel Murphy’s Irish Pub where we ended up listening to great live music afterward.
Trust me and order the steak.
But honestly, all of the sides were great too. I had risotto that was cooked perfectly and I’m still thinking about it.
Bonny Moon
Bonny Moon is the spot that everyone recommends and I can see why.
The restaurant sits right on the beach with gorgeous crystal-clear water views and was the perfect place to cool off during the hottest part of the day.
Honestly, I wouldn’t go back for food but a drink on the beach is always the right call!
💰Savvy Traveler Tip
Fosters Market ended up being one of our best money-saving finds.
They have a huge prepared foods section with:
Asian food
Caribbean food
Mexican food
Pizza
Sandwiches
Salads
The food is priced by weight, so just be careful not to overload your container.
It still ended up being much cheaper than constantly eating at restaurants.

Grand Cayman Travel Tips
1. Grand Cayman is expensive
I still absolutely think it’s worth visiting, but just go in expecting higher prices for almost everything.
2. Driving takes some getting used to
They drive on the left side of the road and some of the roundabouts are diabolical! LOL
I’ve driven on the left before but even I needed a minute to adjust. It takes some getting used to their double roundabouts and lanes seem to come out of nowhere!
3. Renting a car is worth it
Even though driving can feel intimidating initially, having a rental car gives you the freedom to explore beaches and areas outside of Seven Mile Beach.
There’s so much more to the island than the main tourist area. (my favorite beach is Smith Cove)
4. Stay somewhere with a kitchen
Even though groceries are expensive too, eating some meals at your apartment or rental can save a lot of money over the course of the trip.
5. Research happy hours before your trip
There are actually quite a few good happy hour deals around the island if you plan ahead.
6. Bring your own snorkel gear and a float
One of my favorite things about Grand Cayman was simply floating in the calm, crystal-clear water.
And there’s amazing snorkeling directly from shore at several beaches.
What I’d Do Differently Next Time
Visit Starfish Point during the daytime
Explore the Eastern side of the island
See Rum Point Beach
Stay an extra day or two
Check out more live entertainment
Spend more time at Cemetery Beach
What I Actually Spent in Grand Cayman
Here’s my full trip cost breakdown:
Accommodation: $622 per person (5 nights)
Flight: $280 roundtrip from Bradley on Southwest
Food & Drinks: $450 per person
Activities & Attractions: $95
Transportation: $50 per person
Total Trip Cost: $1497
Average Daily Cost: $299/day
Is Grand Cayman Worth It?
Honestly? Yes.
Grand Cayman has some of the clearest water and nicest beaches I’ve seen anywhere in the Caribbean.
The island also felt very safe and everyone we met was incredibly friendly.
Would I personally go back?
Probably not anytime soon — but only because of the cost.
If money were no factor, I’d absolutely return.
I think Grand Cayman is especially perfect for:
girls trips
couples trips
babymoons
family beach vacations
travelers who prioritize beautiful beaches and relaxing water
If you’re a strict budget traveler, though, this might not be the best Caribbean destination for you.
Final Thoughts
Grand Cayman ended up being one of the prettiest islands I’ve ever visited.
Between the insanely clear water, unique excursions like the bioluminescent bay, and some really beautiful beaches, it’s easy to understand why people love it.
Yes — it’s expensive.
But if you plan carefully and use a few savvy traveler strategies, I do think it’s possible to experience Grand Cayman without completely overspending.
And honestly, floating in that crystal-clear water all day? Worth it.

My Favorite Excursion:
Bioluminescent Bay Tour Review
One of the highlights of the trip was the Bioluminescent Bay Tour with Captain Marvin’s / Sweet Spot.
The tour lasts about two hours and includes stops at Starfish Point and Bioluminescent Bay. Transportation to the dock can also be arranged for an additional fee.
The staff was fantastic and they provided:
bottled water
full-body wetsuits
snorkeling gear
The wetsuits were especially helpful because they protect against jellyfish.
On the way to Starfish Point, we got to watch the sunset from the boat, which was beautiful.
The only downside for me was arriving at Starfish Point after dark. The staff used flashlights and boat lights to help us see the starfish, which still made for some really cool pictures, but I would have loved seeing it during the daytime too.
Then came the highlight of the night — swimming in the glowing bioluminescent water.
We were warned ahead of time that the moon and cloud coverage could affect how vibrant the glow would be and were even offered a refund if we wanted to cancel. We decided to chance it anyway and I’m so glad we did.
My friend actually said it was the best excursion she’s ever been on.
Watching the water light up around you when you move is such a surreal experience and something I’ve honestly never seen before.
They also had a professional photographer onboard taking photos throughout the excursion.
I would absolutely recommend this tour to all first timers on the island
